A playful mashup of “materiality” and “reality”, the exhibition brings together contemporary artists from across the African continent whose work transforms everyday materials — soil, cloth, wood, metal, found objects, even roof paint and automotive pigment — into powerful statements on identity, memory, land and belonging.

Presented by the Iziko South African National Gallery, this is a rare deep dive into how material becomes meaning — and how artists are rewriting the rules of what counts as “art material” in the first place.
